Chúng tôi đang thấy hạn hán trầm trọng với nhiều vùng đất nứt , theo sau nhiều lũ lụt và tàn phá sản phẩm nông nghiệp và những đất đai khác trong quy mô chưa từng thấy , và mỗi ngày , 30.000 trẻ em trên thế giới chết vì bệnh tật có liên quan đến nước . 70% tất cả nước đi vào việc sản xuất thực phẩm ( http://www.suprememastertv.com/bbs/b...8&page=3&url=& ) và gia súc là trong số nguồn ô nhiễm nước khu vực lớn nhất và chịu trách nhiệm cho 64% khí thải ammonia , góp phần vào mưa axít .

4664 lít nước để sản xuất 1 khẩu phần thịt bò nhưng toàn bộ bữa ăn thuần chay cần chỉ 371 lít nước . Các khoa học gia đã tính toán rằng chúng ta thật ra sẽ tiết kiệm thêm nước bằng cách kiêng một cân Anh thịt bò , hoặc bốn bánh mì bơ-gơ , hoặc không tắm ít nhất sáu tháng . 1. Human-caused Climate Change At Root Of Diminishing Water Flow In Western US, Scientists Find -3 Feb 2008

Human-caused global warming affects water supply in Western US. Scientists from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Scripps Institution of Oceanography have long wondered by the water supply in the Western states has been on the decline for the last 20 to 30 years. Their research recently concluded that the cause is humans.

Tim Barnett of Scripps said, “The results are being driven by temperature change. And that temperature change is caused by us.”

2. Two billion face water famine as Himalayan glaciers melt - 8 Feb 2008

Himalayan glacier melt affecting two billion people. Studies have only begun but are already revealing that the Himalayan glaciers are melting, and may lead to a significant rise in the water flow of four major river basins including the Ganges and Yellow Rivers.

And overflow of rivers in the next few decades would then be followed by a severe water shortage, affecting the two billion people who rely on the source of water. May Heaven grant us with wisdom and immediate action to protect our natural resources and the balance of our delicate ecosystem. We pray that Mother Nature continues to sustain life for many more millennia.

United Arab Emirates Minister calls for reusing water - 11 Feb 2008

United Arab Emirates finds ways to save water. During a recent presentation on water conservation in the Dubai municipality, Minister of Environment and Water, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi said that new developments will reuse waste water for irrigation and other purposes.

He emphasized the importance of water conservation in the United Arab Emirates, where fresh water is increasingly scarce.

China promotes ways to save water - 11 Feb 2008

To improve water balance and sufficiency, China is promoting many approaches to save water. These include improving irrigation efficiency, using reclaimed water in urban areas, building roads that allow water to permeate into soil and raising awareness through public education on water saving.

Las Vegas water source could run dry by 2021 - 15 Feb 2008

Las Vegas water supply disappearing. A study by researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California, USA predicts that Lake Mead, the prime water source for the city of Las Vegas, is likely to go dry within 13 years.

The lake, which is currently half full, serves 90% of the city’s water needs. Saying that the effect will be more far-reaching than Las Vegas only, Dr. Tim Barnett, the study’s co-author, stated, “This water problem is not a scientific abstraction, but rather one that will impact each and every one of us that live in the Southwest.”

We appreciate it, Dr. Barnett and Scripps Institution researchers, for revealing this urgent truth to the public. May the Providence guide us in finding solutions to preserve our resources so that future generations can live in happiness, security, and prosperity.

South Africa's water could run out by 2025 - 18 Feb 2008

Policy changes urged in South Africa to avert water crisis. The World Wide Fund for Nature - South Africa recently sounded the warning that the nation, which is currently utilizing 98% of available water supplies, could face major shortages by the year 2025.

The organization’s Chief Executive, Morne du Plessis, said that actions must be taken now at all government levels to avert the full impact of global climate change, especially since South Africa is currently ranked as the world’s seventh most carbon intensive economy.

Global warming - not el Nino - drove worst drought on record in the Amazon -22 Feb 2008

Amazon drought in 2005 caused by warmer oceans. Research analysis of climate and rainfall records by Brazilian Dr. Jose Marengo and colleagues has concluded that warmer ocean temperatures resulting from climate change caused the worst drought in Amazon history.

The drought drained rivers dry, froze commerce, and further escalated environmental damage as lands burned and released carbon filled fumes.

Dr. Marengo and researchers, thank you for giving us further evidence that time is of the essence to protect our environment and planetary home. We pray that the world will join in this globally conscious mission.

Beavers can help ease drought - 23 Feb 2008

Beavers have an essential role in sustaining open waters. Research by the Canadian University of Alberta has revealed the alarming effects of drought due to the removal of beavers and their dams as part of urbanized development.

Beavers’ dam building activities are known to protect wildlife habitat and replenish groundwater supplies. Our appreciations researchers, for raising our awareness of the vital roles our animal co-inhabitants play in the survival of our world. With evidence such as this and the blessings of Heaven, may we strive harder to preserve our natural habitats and uphold the sanctity of all life.

Chile government hands out water in major drought - 24 Feb 2008

Chile in throes of worst drought in decades. The Chilean government is handing out emergency rations of drinking water to help inhabitants through a drought crisis. Almost 90 communities, reportedly comprised of 120,000 people, have been classified as agricultural emergencies.

As the rivers and reservoirs dry up, there is huge crop damage and loss of animal lives. The drought is linked to La Nina weather pattern which in turn is believed to be due to climate change.

We sincerely pray that Chile and her warm-hearted people may soon experience the blessing of gentle rainfall in the affected areas. May all nations unite in harmonious action to safeguard our planet and her inhabitants.

As South American rivers dry up , miners tap ocean - 24 Feb 2008

Water pumped from Pacific Ocean to Andes Mountains. Mines in Peru and Chile that supply the world with minerals such as gold and copper are high in the mountains where water is scarce.

Supplies are predicted to dwindle further with the effects of global warming. To preserve water for use in local communities, the mine companies have found a way to desalinate sea water and pump it into the mountains.

Cerro Lindo Mine already relies entirely on seawater, and Antofagasta Minerals is soon to follow. Bravo South American mine companies for your enterprising way to alleviate water scarcity caused by global warming. May your noble efforts continue in doing all possible to mitigate the effects of climate change and save precious lives.

Climate change 'poses drought risk for Africa' - 25 Feb 2008

Climate change expected to reduce rainfall 25% in Africa. A recent report by the United States Agency for International Development’s Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS NET) is projecting that climate change-induced drought is likely to decrease food supplies from 10-20% throughout Africa.

It was suggested that solutions such as increasing agricultural production by 15% could overcome this shortage.

China’s Icy Province Sees Higher Temperature , Severe Drought - 5 Mar 2008

China’s northernmost province of Heilongjiang feels the effects of climate change. Meteorologists with the Heilongjiang Meteorological Observatory said the provincial capital, Harbin, known as the “city of ice,” posted the highest average annual temperatures since records began in 1881.

Senior meteorologist at the observatory, Yin Xuemian said, “This record annual average was not incidental. It was closely related to the global warming trend.” The province also faces worsening drought, which has already affected more than 40 percent of its arable land.

Climate change's most deadly threat : drought - 6 Mar 2008

Renowned scientist and author releases second book on global warming. The latest book by anthropologist and best-selling author Brian Fagan outlines what he says is the real threat to climate change survival, namely, inland drought. In his book titled, “The Great Warming: Climate Change and the Rise and Fall of Civilizations,” Dr. Fagan states that although rising sea levels are causing coastal flooding, inland areas will suffer the opposite, as reliable precipitation vanishes.

'Green' kids in Georgia, USA tackle drought - 15 Mar 2008

Teens in Georgia, USA get serious about water conservation. Students at the Weber School just north of Atlanta are organizing a conservation campaign in response to a historic drought that is drying up nearby Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River.

They are sponsoring river clean-ups, lobbying their state legislators, and have created their own non-profit organization called the Student Ecology Movement.

Great job, eco-youths! We praise and thank you for your efforts to protect our incomparably precious natural environment. May young people the world over take inspiration from your ennobling examples.

Sông băng trên rặng Rwenzori ở Phi châu đang biến mất nhanh chóng - 21 tháng 3, 2008

Một toán gồm 27 người leo núi có liên hệ với Quỹ Hoang Thú Quốc tế cho Thiên nhiên (WWF) gần đây thám hiểm các sông băng cao độ của Rặng núi Rwenzori giữa biên giới Uganda và Cộng hòa Dân chủ Congo. Họ tìm thấy rằng các sông băng trong vùng đã thu nhỏ với tỷ lệ đáng ngại là 50% trong 50 năm qua và 75% trong thế kỷ vừa qua. Với tốc độ thu nhỏ hiện nay, các sông băng sẽ biến mất trong vòng 30 năm. Cyprus khởi xướng chế độ hạn chế nước - 27 tháng 3, 2008

Với lượng mưa giảm sút 20% trong 35 năm qua và nước dự trữ chỉ ở mức 10%, đảo phía Đông Địa Trung Hải đang trãi qua tình trạng khan hiếm nước có tính cách lịch sử. Chính phủ tuyên bố hôm thứ hai rằng nguồn nước sẽ bị cắt giảm 30% bằng cách cấp nước cho người dân chỉ 8 giờ mỗi 2 ngày. Chính phủ cũng cố gắng mua nước từ Hy Lạp cho đến khi nhà máy lọc muối thứ 3 hoạt động vào tháng 6.

Người dân Peru lo lắng khi thời gian sắp hết cho các sông băng Andean - 27 tháng 3, 2008

Năm ngoái, Hội đồng Liên Chính phủ Khí hậu Thay đổi Liên Hiệp Quốc của Liên Hiệp Quốc (IPCC) báo cáo rằng sông băng ở Châu Mỹ La Tinh có thể biến mất trong vòng 15 năm. Peru, quê hương của 70% số lượng sông băng nhiệt đới thế giới sẽ bị ảnh hưởng nhiều nhất. Người dân nông thôn sử dụng nước từ sông băng tan chảy hầu như trong mọi mặt của đời sống, từ nước uống đến nước tưới mùa màng. Hâm nóng toàn cầu gia tăng tốc độ tan chảy của sông băng ở Thụy Sĩ - 1 tháng 4, 2008

Nhiều dòng trong số 1.800 sông băng ở Thụy Sĩ đang tan ở mức cao hơn năm ngoái 3%. Các dòng sông lớn nhất đang rút xuống hàng tá mét nước mỗi năm, trong khi mức độ tan chảy thường niên của các dòng sông khác đang tăng gấp 2, gấp 3 lần. Ban Giám sát Sông băng Quốc tế, do Liên Hiệp Quốc nâng đỡ, cho biết nguyên nhân của việc tan chảy không ngớt là do sự thay đổi khí hậu.

Gia Nã Đại phải chuẩn bị cho sự thay đổi khí hậu - 4 tháng 4, 2008

Theo báo cáo của bộ lâm nghiệp Gia Nã Đại, ảnh hướng sắp tới của nạn hâm nóng toàn cầu bao gồm khả năng gia tăng cháy rừng, mưa đá, và sự lan tràn của loại côn trùng ăn cây do nhiệt độ ấm hơn. Vì Gia Nã Đại còn là nhà của 10% diện tích rừng trên thế giới, báo cáo trên cũng đề nghị Gia Nã Đại ấn định một số khu rừng như những bồn lọc hấp thu thán khí tự nhiên, nhằm giảm thiểu khí nhà kính.

Tại Hội nghị Khí hậu Vọng Các hiện đang diễn ra tại Thái Lan ở Liên Hiệp Quốc, các chính phủ và tổ chức đang họp mặt để ký kết hiệp ước tiếp sau Nghị định thư Kyoto về việc cắt giảm khí nhà kính. Truyền Hình Vô Thượng Sư đã tiếp chuyện với Dale Marshall, nhà phân tích chính sách khí hậu của Tổ chức David Suzuki, được đồng sáng lập bởi nhà môi sinh nổi tiếng Tiến sĩ David Suzuki.

Năm nay , thay đổi khí hậu đã ảnh hưởng thế nào đến người dân Gia Nã Đại ?

Dale Marshall : Gia Nã Đại là quốc gia ở phía Bắc, đang ấm lên nhanh hơn rất nhiều so với toàn thế giới. Có nhiều ảnh hưởng đến môi sinh ở Bắc Cực, người thổ dân sinh sống ở Bắc Cực, nhưng cũng có tác động trên khắp Gia Nã Đại. Hạn hán trên đồng cỏ gia tăng; các dòng sông ở đó đang sụt giảm lượng nước chảy qua nên có rất ít nước có sẵn cho hệ sinh thái tự nhiên. Ngay cả nước trong các hồ lớn, nguồn nước ngọt không ngờ, mực nước đang giảm xuống và Hồ Superior, hồ lớn nhất trên thế giới, có mực nước đang hạ xuống. Nhiều đợt sâu bọ phá hoại vì không có mùa đông giá lạnh ở Anh Columbia, đã làm chết nửa số cây thông ở Anh Columbia. Chúng ta sẽ gánh chịu thêm rất nhiều thay đổi nữa trong những năm tới, nhất là nếu mình không làm gì.

Xin biết ơn ông Marshall và các bộ trưởng Gia Nã Đại cho lời cảnh báo thấy trước để đối phó với tình trạng mất ổn định khí hậu. Mong môi trường tự nhiên của Gia Nã Đại được bảo tồn nhờ hành động mau lẹ và bền vững.
