Relief news update from Âu Lạc (Vietnam) - 21 Sep 2009

Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Âu Lạc (Vietnam).

On May 26, 2009, a heavy rain caused severe floods in the mountainous Tương Dương district of Nghệ An province. Five people lost their lives and two sustained injuries, with 20 homes that collapsed and over 200 that were damaged as well as up to 400 hectares of crops lost.

Especially affected were the ethnic minority residents in Pa-tý Village, where rice crops were submerged and many homes collapsed.

On May 28, Supreme Master Ching Hai donated US$15,000 for urgently needed aid, conveying her love and sorrow for those afflicted. This amount could purchase an equivalent of US$252,000 in materials if purchased in the United States, based on Âu Lạc's cost of living.

Our Association members from Northern Âu Lạc (Vietnam) quickly travelled approximately 500 kilometers to bring basic necessities to the affected people, especially those in the worst flood-affected villages of Yên Tĩnh, Yên Hòa, and Yên Na.

These villages were on a high mountain, about 50 to 60 kilometers away from the district center, and all residents were ethnic minorities, mainly the Khơ-mú and Thái, who make their living largely through growing vegetables.

On June 1, with help from the local government, the relief team was able to reach the mountain communities, where they delivered much-needed supplies to communities where houses had been swept away leaving only the foundations, and many residents were confused and distressed..

In Pa-tý, a small village that had suffered five human casualties due to the floods, the relief team went to comfort each household, bringing gifts to the families who had lost loved ones.

As the bridge leading to the village’s primary school had been swept away, our Association’s relief team gave the local government financial support to be able to quickly rebuild the bridge and enable the children to safely return to school.

The people in all areas conveyed their gratitude for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s reassuring comfort and care.

Hoàng Sỹ Thìn, Chief of Agriculture and Rural development Bureau of Tương Dương District (M): People here were very moved when they got Supreme Master Ching Hai’s gifts.
We ourselves feel that hers is a very noble spirit.
We are very thankful to Supreme Master Ching Hai and on behalf of People’s Committee of Tương Dương District and the people here, we respectfully wish her good health.

Đặng Minh Châu, Deputy Chief of Standing Commitee of Provincial Party Committee (M): On behalf of Provincial Party Committee and the local people, I sincerely thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for her kindness and the enthusiasm of your group.

Although the roads here are difficult and the weather is very hot, you’ve come to every house to give gifts in person. People here greatly admire and are deeply grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Lô Thái Sinh, Chairman of People’s Committee of Yên Hòa village (M): I must say that Supreme Master Ching Hai has such a wonderfully kind heart. If we could have more people like Supreme Master Ching Hai, it would be so wonderful. People’s difficulties and suffering would be lessened.

VOICE: Our thankfulness for the help of the local government in assisting our Association’s relief team.
We are also grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for her ever-loving support to those in need, and to our Association’s relief team for their devoted efforts to assist the afflicted.

Our prayers for the soon restoration of the Aulacese people to the normalcy of their everyday lives and that humanity’s greater benevolence will help ease calamities such as these.

Covering all their own expenses, our Association’s relief team from Paraguay immediately began a 1,400 kilometer trip through to the afflicted regions of Paraguay and Argentina.

In Paraguay, where the storm victims were widely dispersed, they reached as many residents as they could, distributing SOS flyers while explaining the cause of these climatic events and their solutions, much to the victims’ appreciation.

Although the damage was clearly visible, most rural residents were not facing major difficulties and were already receiving government assistance.

In Argentina, where many residents had already received relief and reconstruction assistance from the Argentine government and several other countries, our relief team visited eight of the families most in need, giving them SOS flyers as well as a financial donation of US$100.

We are grateful, Argentina and all helping governments for your timely assistance to the afflicted. Relief news update from Somalia - 1 Nov 2009

Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Somalia.

Three days of relentless rains at the start of April brought floods through the western Somaliland region from the overflowing Wajale River.

At least two lives were lost and hundreds of families displaced. On April 7, Supreme Master Ching Hai offered US$10,000 in emergency support, asking if our Association’s relief team could go, or if not possible, to arrange to send the aid through the International Red Cross.

Another two days of torrential rains that began October 16 triggered flash floods in and around the Somali capital of Mogadishu, sweeping away many makeshift shelters.

Thousands of persons already displaced by civil war were rendered homeless, without food and in dire need of shelter from the cold and wet weather. Inadequate conditions also affected another 36,000 residents of the southern coastal city of Kismayo, making them vulnerable to mosquitoes and rain.

Meanwhile, relief access was limited by continued regional conflict. On October 20, Supreme Master Ching Hai donated an additional US$20,000 in aid. Expressing her deep sorrow and prayers for their well-being and soon recovered peace, she requested that the amount be donated to the Red Cross, the Red Crescent Society or any charity organization that could go there to help the afflicted Somali people. The combined US$30,000 donation could purchase an equivalent of over US$2 million in supplies in the United States, based on the cost of living in Somalia.

As per Supreme Master Ching Hai’s frequent requests for updates, the following is a report from our Association’s Foreign Group.

October 25, 2009
Most beloved Master,
Re: Donations for helping people in Somalia We thank Master for your everlasting love for the Somali people. On October 21, we received a letter of appreciation to Master for your US$10,000 donation for the flood victims in western parts of Somalia.

Re: Other relief funds for helping people in Somalia For the flood victims in Somali capital city of Mogadishu and city of Kismayo, we have given Master’s relief fund to Red Cross and the Red Crescent, and also conveyed Maser’s deep sorrow for the victims and prayers for their well being and quick restoration of a peaceful life.

We will report to Master once this process is complete.
Thank you so much, Master, for your love and enlightening guidance.
With all our love,
Foreign Group

VOICE: We appreciate Supreme Master Ching Hai’s permission to share these updates with our concerned viewers, and thank our Association’s Foreign Group for providing this report.

We are also grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for her wholehearted care of those in need. May Heaven protect the Somali people as they strive to resume the regularity of their day-to-day lives, and such distressing events lessen through humanity’s increased consideration for all beings.

Expressing much love and sorrow, she requested that our nearby Association members go to help if needed, especially those people who had lost loved ones, the elderly and any others in desperate situations.
Our Association’s relief team from Malaysia travelled to the affected villages on October 18, covering their own expenses. As most were located in remote and hilly regions, with no proper roads, it took several days to finally reach all the flood victims. Distributing monetary aid to 152 families, the relief team said many were overjoyed as they could now repair their damaged homes and meet other needs.

Children were also very happy to be given treats. The relief recipients requested that their heartfelt gratitude and love be conveyed to Supreme Master Ching Hai.In the old city of Sana'a, the team was able to seek out victims of the disastrous floods of October 2007, many of whom were widowed and with families still in need of assistance.

Our Association’s relief team was able to deliver financial aid to six families in Sana’a and also to one man in Al-Mahweet who had lost his home and family members in a gas cylinder explosion tragedy.

They also distributed SOS fliers and SOS DVDs to students and the teaching staff at Sana'a University to inform them of the vegan solution to avoid the unfortunate disasters of global warming. The operation went smoothly over five days with the assistance and enthusiasm of a local driver, who also served as guide and interpreter.

Our gratitude for the ready help of the Yemeni driver in securing smooth transport and communication.
We are also thankful for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s care for the most vulnerable, as well as our Association’s relief team for their sincere endeavors. May Heaven bless the Yemeni people with a smooth recovery of their productive daily lives as such calamities subside through humanity’s joined efforts
toward a kinder, eco-balanced Earth.
