Khi ấy, có nhiều môn đệ của Chúa Giêsu nói rằng: "Lời này chói tai quá! Ai nghe được!" Tự biết rằng các môn đệ đang lẩm bẩm về chuyện ấy, Chúa Giêsu nói với họ: "Điều đó làm các con khó chịu ư? Vậy nếu các con thấy Con Người lên nơi đã ở trước thì sao? Chính thần trí mới làm cho sống, chứ xác thịt nào có ích gì? Nhưng lời Ta nói với các con là thần trí và là sự sống. Nhưng trong các con có một số không tin". Vì từ đầu Chúa Giêsu đã biết ai là những kẻ không tin, và kẻ nào sẽ nộp Người. Và Người nói: "Bởi đó, Ta bảo các con rằng: Không ai có thể đến với Ta, nếu không được Cha Ta ban cho".

Many of Jesus’disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail.
The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”

Viele seiner Jünger, die ihm zuhörten, sagten: Was er sagt, ist unerträglich. Wer kann das anhören? Jesus erkannte, dass seine Jünger darüber murrten, und fragte sie: Daran nehmt ihr Anstoß? Was werdet ihr sagen, wenn ihr den Menschensohn hinaufsteigen seht, dorthin, wo er vorher war? Der Geist ist es, der lebendig macht; das Fleisch nützt nichts. Die Worte, die ich zu euch gesprochen habe, sind Geist und sind Leben. Aber es gibt unter euch einige, die nicht glauben. Jesus wusste nämlich von Anfang an, welche es waren, die nicht glaubten, und wer ihn verraten würde.
Und er sagte: Deshalb habe ich zu euch gesagt: Niemand kann zu mir kommen, wenn es ihm nicht vom Vater gegeben ist.

Từ bấy giờ có nhiều môn đệ rút lui, không còn theo Người nữa. Chúa Giêsu liền nói với nhóm Mười Hai rằng: "Cả các con, các con có muốn bỏ đi không?"

As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”

Daraufhin zogen sich viele Jünger zurück und wanderten nicht mehr mit ihm umher. Da fragte Jesus die Zwölf: Wollt auch ihr weggehen?

Simon Phêrô thưa Người: "Lạy Thầy, chúng con sẽ đi theo ai? Thầy mới có những lời ban sự sống đời đời. Phần chúng con, chúng con tin và chúng con biết rằng: Thầy là Đấng Kitô Con Thiên Chúa".

Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”

Simon Petrus antwortete ihm: Herr, zu wem sollen wir gehen? Du hast Worte des ewigen Lebens. Wir sind zum Glauben gekommen und haben erkannt: Du bist der Heilige Gottes.
