VideoLan là một software miễn phí dùng để xem video và nghe nhạc. Tuy đơn giản nhưng có nhiều chức năng và supports nhiều formats hơn đa số các media player khác. Softwares nầy có sẳn plugins để đọc các formats khác nhau cho nên không cần cài thêm codecs.

VideoLAN is an excellent multimedia player with it's own plugins for playing different formats, so it doesn't need any codecs to be installed. It works great for previewing partially downloaded files too as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

This version is aimed at fixing security vulnerabilities in the Active X plugin and the Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) library which affect VLC media player 0.8.6c and lower. Improvements in this release include better Video Output compatibility on Mac OS X and Apple Remote support on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Please note that Mac OS X 10.3.9 is no longer supported.
