3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Readings

Acts 22:3-16

1Cor 7:29-31

Mk 16:15-18

Questions for reflection

1. What is the kingdom of God?

2. What is the good news which Jesus delivers?

3. Do you believe that the gospel has power to free you from bondage of fear and sin?

4. What kind of disciples did Jesus choose?

5. Do you witness to those around you the joy of the gospel and do you pray for your neighbors and relatives that they may come to know the Lord Jesus Christ?

This Sunday’s readings entail the conversion of St. Paul and how the Lord chose His disciples. As we read each reading, we are encouraged by whom the Lord chose tobe His disciples. God chose a group of men, many of whom were uneducated, all of whom could have their loyalty called into question, to become the early leaders of the Church. The eleven apostles and Paul, what did they have in common? They all had the experience of conversion. They all had the fire of the Lord in their hearts. This experience gave them their calling and the power to live it out. And with their faith in God and His promise, the eleven disciples and St. Paul were able to carry out God’s work.

We have to remember that God calls on the weak and transforms them with the Holy Spirit. It is through the transforming power of our faith which turns our weaknesses into strengths. And with our faith and strength, we all must use God’s gift to carry out His work.

Lord Jesus, you have called me personally by name, just as you called St. Paul. Help me to be a faithful to the gospel and loyal to you. Fill me with the joy of the gospel and help me to be a good witness of your kingdom to others.
Amen.
